Chilohelm Onuoha: Nigeria midfielder joins FC Köln

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

German Bundesliga side, FC Köln have signed Chilohelm Onuoha ahead of the 2024/2025 campaign.

The 19-year-old midfielder has joined from Leipzig’s academy and will be loaned out for the 2024/2025 season to 3. Liga side, SC Verl.

Onuoha was born in Germab city of Berlin in 2005. From Füchse Berlin, he moved to the Hertha BSC U15s.

Previously the German-born Nigerian played two years for the Leipzig under-19s and made 14 appearances last season, scoring five times and setting up a further three.

“In terms of his potential, Chilo has a very complete package in terms of technical and physical attributes. Our challenge will now be to get him used to the challenges of first-team football as best we can and develop quality out of his potential. With the loan to Verl, we have made a good start and will keep a close eye on Chilo during his loan.” FC Köln Managing Director Christian Keller said on the Club website.

“I have decided to join FC because I felt a lot of trust during the discussions. Here, I also have the opportunity to continue my development. I have friends in Köln who have followed FC for a long time and have told me a lot about the club. I really want to play in the RheinEnergieSTADION one day and will work hard to reach that goal. In order to do that, it is a good step to play my first year of senior football in the 3. Liga with SC Verl.” Onuoha said.
