Chinwendu Ihezuo opens goal account in Monterrey’s big win over Leon

After scoring six goals in her debut league season for Mexican side, Monterrey, Nigerian forward, Chinwendu Ihezuo opened her goal account for the 2023/2024 Liga MX Women’s season as her side thrashed Club Leon 7-0 on Sunday.

The host scored five goals in the first half of a dominant match at Guadalupe Cardenas Morales.

Christina Burkenroad opened the scoring for Monterrey in the first minute of play before Ihezuo doubled the lead a minute later.

Burkenroad’s second goal of the encounter in the 11th minute increased the host’s lead to three while Carlee Giammona made it 4-0 in the 421st minute.

The former Pelican Stars and Delta Queens product completed her hat-trick in the 44th minute before heading into the locker room for a halftime team talk.

The Super Falcon also scored her fourth goal of the game in the 83rd minute while Myra Delgadillo ended the scoring for Monterrey.

The win was actually Monterrey’s first in the league this season after a 1-1 draw with Toluca in its opening game of the season.

With four points, the Rayadas occupy the third position on the log with four points after two league games.
