Nigeria midfielder Chrisantus Uche escaped unhurt after being involved in a car accident on his way to training with Spanish club Getafe, just hours after his proposed transfer to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers collapsed.
Uche’s vehicle reportedly veered off the road and crashed into a wall before being towed away. The 24-year-old was left shaken but escaped without injuries and is expected to return to training once given the all-clear by Getafe’s medical staff.
The accident came at a pivotal moment in his career. Wolves had reached an agreement with Getafe for the Lagos-born midfielder, but the deal fell through after the player failed to agree on personal terms with the Premier League club.
However, Uche’s English Premier League dream may still be alive, with Leeds United now closely monitoring his situation and considering a late move before the transfer window closes.
Uche broke into Getafe’s first team last season after impressing with their B side and has since emerged as one of Nigeria’s brightest rising stars in Europe.
His ball-winning qualities and box-to-box drive have drawn comparisons with Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh, further underlining his growing reputation on the continent.
