Nasarawa Amazons head coach, Christopher Danjuma believes the tactical style contributed to the his side’s victorious outing in Aba following a 2-1 triumph over Abia Angels on Wednesday.
Strikes from Dominance Odubanjo and Josephine Matthias helped the Solid Miners to complete a double over their Aba based rivals and also their first away victory this season at the Enyimba International stadium, Aba.
The Nigeria U20 women’s coach revealed his tactical strategy protect their win despite Abia’s late fightback with Nnesoma Ibe’s 80th minute strike as he shifts focus on the top-of-the-table clash with Edo Queens next Wednesday.
“The table is a very tight one so definitely we lost at home when we needed to pick a point, we needed to recover outside knowing that we have more away matches to play,” Danjuma told media.
“The antecedents before us is the factor that’s pushing us to make sure we gather more points and qualify for the Super Six. You know football have this natural tendency when somebody is two goals down and keep fighting, two goals in modern football is not clean or home all the way.
“So when they pulled one goal back, definitely you see that the surge of energy to at least let them pick a point. All what we needed to do was to become a bit more tactical and forget going upfront. We keep our heads down and our next match is Edo Queens, making sure that no matter what’s happening we are within the top two positions.”
With this win, Nasarawa Amazons are now top of the NWFL Premiership group B with 13 points from seven matches and will be on the road to trade tackles with Edo Queens in Benin in their next game on the 15th of February 2023.
Danjuma’s saw off second placed Edo Queens 1-0 in the first leg at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi and will be eager to complete a double over his assistant at the U20 national team, Moses Aduku at club level this term.
