Christy Ucheibe lauds Nigeria feat, tasks NFF to invest more in women’s football

Nigeria midfielder Christy Ucheibe has commended the team’s feat at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup despite their elimination in the Round of 16 in a penalty shootout against England last Monday.
The Super Falcons lost 4-2 on penalties to the European champions after a goaless affairs in normal and extra times.
Ucheibe who started all games for Nigeria distinguished herself with incredible performances as she provided cover for the back line that saw Nigeria recorded three clean sheets in four games.
Reacting on the team’s run at the mundial, Benfica midfielder believed that the Falcons’ performance has brought a renewed hope for women’s football, not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole.
In her Facebook post, Ucheibe also called for proper programs that will encourage women’s football in the country.
“No words to describe this incredible team (Super Falcons) am proud to say my generation brought pride and respect back to our great nation, We showed the world what we are made of!,” he wrote on social media.
“It’s also a wake up call to the federation to invest more in our football from the club sides and also all the national teams from under17 to the Super Falcons.
