Christy Ucheibe wins another Portuguese title with Benfica

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria midfielder, Christy Ucheibe added to her trophy cabinets on Saturday after her SL Benfica defeated Peace Efih’s Braga to clinch the Portuguese Taça Da Liga title.
Ucheibe shone as the Portuguese league holders had to come from a goal before securing a 3-1 win over Braga.
Caroline Kehrer had given Braga a 34th-minute lead before Benfica were handed a lifeline shortly before the halftime break when Carole Costa converted from the spot to level the scoreline in the 45th minute.
After the restart, Nycole Raysla Silva Sobrinho gave Benfica the lead for the first time in the 66th minute.
With Braga pushing for a late leveler, Benfica crushed their comeback hopes as they guaranteed their title triumph through Raysla’s second strike of the match six minutes from time.
Despite the Cup battle ending in Benfica’s favour, the two teams still have scores to settle in the top-of-the-table league duel after the international break on April 16.
Ucheibe will team up with the Super Falcons squad ahead of its next friendly games with Haiti and New Zealand hoping to build on its 1-0 win over Costa Rica which ended the team’s seven-match winless run.
