By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria-eligible striker Chuba Akpom continued his brilliant goalscoring form with yet another goal and assist as Middlesbrough thrashed Preston North End 4-0 in the English Championship.
Middlesbrough were as ruthless as they were dominant from the beginning to end as they played host at their Riverside stadium.
Cameron Archer was in perfect sync with Akpom as they combined for two out of the four goals scored on the night.
Akpom who has been brilliant under Michael Carrick’s tutelage, broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute thanks to an assist from Archer.
Archer then went from provider to scorer, finishing brilliantly after being set up by Ryan Giles to extend the lead in the 52nd minute.
Six minutes later, Archer and Akpom once again combined for a second time on the night as the Nigerian find Archer with a through ball on goal, for Boro’s third.
Giles then grabbed his second assist as Marcus Forss closed off scoring in the 95th minute of the game.
The Nigerian has received several honours with his remarkable performance under the tutelage of Carrick, which includes leading the Sky Bet Championship scorers chart with 24 goals in 31 Championship games this season.
Although he was left out of Jose Peseiro’s latest squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, Akpom keeps up with his impressive form for Boro.
