The epic crowning ceremony was attended by some of football’s biggest names, including star players, respected managers, and revered club officials, who joined in celebrating Akpom’s impressive accomplishment on Sunday.
Akpom’s incredible goal-scoring exploits throughout the season saw him net an impressive 28 goals in the Championship, making him the division’s leading goal scorer.
He has outscored the next-highest goalscorer on the charts, Coventry’s Viktor Gyökeres, by eight goals and is a shoo-in for the Championship’s Golden Boot as well, with only three games left to play.
His red-hot form has seen Boro secure their playoff spot as they currently sit in an impressive fourth place in the Championship standings and could qualify for the Premier League next season.
The forward recently became the first Championship player to score in nine home games in a row, and he’s won multiple Player of the Month awards along the way.

The striker declared to represent Nigeria after switching his international allegiances from England in 2019 but has since been unable to earn an international cap.
“I am super grateful. It has been years of hard work to get to this stage, so I am over the moon,” Akpom said after receiving his award.
“It’s been an amazing season, but I’ve had a lot of downs, getting injured earlier in the season.
“The new manager came in at the perfect time, and he probably brought out the best in me, put me in the number 10, and I’ve been enjoying it ever since.”
