Clubs react as 2023 Nigeria National League draw suffer postponement
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The scheduled draw for the 2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) season has been postponed indefinitely.
The clubs expected to participate upcoming NNL season in the country were broken into regional groupings ahead of the draw on Wednesday which did not later hold as scheduled.
Reacting to the development, Heartland team Manager, Victor Ahuzuike says the team is not worried despite the unimagined postponement.
“Honestly, I don’t think it is stopping us from anything. All we want is just for the team to play and by the special grace of God we believe we’re going to get it right by qualifying,” Ahuzuike told Brila FM.
“We are not worried. No matter the group we find ourselves in, we are not worried.”
Meanwhile, one of the team coaches of another NNL side, Kano Pillars Ibrahim Musa also said that the club is not perturbed by the development.
“By the grace of Almighty Allah, any group we fall we should work hard. We are not asking for any favourable group. Kano Pillars is a big team.”
According to a release by the NNL Communication Department, the two Northern and Southern Conferences of second-tier NNL which comprised a total of 43 teams have been broken into four more sub-divisions.
The new groups have regional considerations that will see the teams not travel beyond 400 kilometres to honour games.
Teams that top the various groups will qualify for a possible NNL Super 8. The Super 8 will determine the four teams that will gain promotion to top flight Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
