In a somber post-match analysis, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte lamented his team’s lackluster performance in the 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Describing the game as ‘difficult,’ Conte expressed disappointment in the poor start and emphasized the need for his players to exhibit more personality on the field.
“Today was a difficult game for us. Our start was poor. We had to start with more personality,” Conte declared during the post-match conference. “Despite this, we have to find the will to fight. This season we have to put in 150% because it will be difficult. We conceded goals at bad times, which made it very difficult for us. Palace grew in confidence.”
Unhappy with the outcome, Conte revealed the toll the loss took on him personally, stating, “I don’t like to lose. Today my soul is bad. We must try to turn a negative situation into a positive situation.”
Addressing the injury concerns, Conte confirmed that Nigerian international Victor Moses, who sustained an injury and had to be substituted during the game, would be absent from the upcoming Champions League clash against Roma. “Moses is definitely out of the Roma game. I’m not sure if it is a serious injury yet. It was hard to start without Morata and Kante today and then lose Moses to injury in the first half.”
Conte also acknowledged that the ‘balance’ of his team was lacking against the Eagles. “Balance is very important if you want to win, and today our balance was poor. They played with great intensity and will to fight.”
As Chelsea regroups for the midweek Champions League fixture against Roma, Conte faces the challenge of reshaping his lineup and instilling the much-needed balance and fighting spirit to overcome the setbacks from the weekend’s defeat.
