Craig Shakespeare Expects Kelechi Iheanacho to Shine for Leicester Once He Recovers from Injury

In a recent statement, Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare expressed his confidence in the abilities of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho, predicting a bright future for the young talent once he overcomes his current injury setback. Iheanacho, who made a high-profile move from Manchester City to Leicester City for £25 million, was conspicuously absent from the Foxes’ 2-0 home victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League this Saturday, as he continues to recover from a toe injury sustained during training.
The 20-year-old Nigerian forward did make an appearance in Leicester’s season opener, a thrilling 4-3 encounter against Arsenal. Nevertheless, his ongoing injury has raised questions about when fans can expect to see him back in action.
Discussing the qualities that a fit Iheanacho will bring to Leicester, Shakespeare acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the player’s return, stating, “Kelechi did some training and we will give him every opportunity. If you have a sore toe, the likelihood is you will get a knock on it within a couple of days to aggravate it. That is what has happened.” Shakespeare revealed that Iheanacho initially sustained the injury against Monchengladbach but later suffered an additional knock during training.
With the player’s fitness and comfort in mind, Shakespeare emphasized the need for caution, explaining, “The sensible thing to do was give him a rest and see how he goes. We haven’t put a timescale on it.” Despite the uncertainty, the Leicester boss remains hopeful, concluding, “Hopefully, when he is 100 percent and we can get some fitness in him, we will see a real player.”
Leicester City fans eagerly await Iheanacho’s return to the pitch and are hopeful that the young striker will make a significant impact once he overcomes his current injury challenges.
