Cyriel Dessers makes history with brace in Cremonese defeat

Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers marked his return from injury with two well-taken historic goals as his side fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sassuolo in a Serie A encounter.
The 28-year-old has been out of action since he suffered a minor injury in early February but returned on the bench in his side’s last two games, including their narrow win over AS Roma.
Sassuolo hosted Cremonese at their Mapei Stadium as both teams were on the hunt for a second consecutive win, but it was the home side that drew first blood in the content through Armand Lauriente in the 26th minute of the game.
After Lauriente’s opener, Lauriente assist find Davide Frattesi in space, who in turn shoot into the right post to double the lead for Sassuolo four minutes from the half time break.
On returning from recess, Dessers was introduced off the bench at half-time, replacing Ghanaian youngster Felix Afena-Gyan, and started Grigiorossi’s comeback with a 62nd minute finish.
With the hosts healthy lead slipping away, the Super Eagles forward found a leveller for his side in the 83rd minute assisted by goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi whose timely long ball found the feet of the goal poacher.
The visitors thought they had earned themselves a point, however Armand Lauriente had other plans for the night with a winner in added time to seal the win for Sassuolo.
The former Feyenoord man was however become the first Cremonese player to score twice in a Serie A game since Andrea Tentoni in 1996.
David Okereke was also in action for Cremonese, lasting 66 minutes before he was hauled off.
