By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors have been crowned champions of the 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) after defeating Kebbi Fishers BSC 5–3 on penalties in a dramatic final at Jabi Lake Park, Abuja, on Sunday.
The thrilling contest ended 3–3 after three periods and extra time, forcing a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
The Nnewi-based side raced to a 3–1 lead through Ekunjimi Eganosi, Peter Prosper, and Stanley Ekwo, but the defending champions — and three-time title holders — Kebbi Fishers BSC mounted a spirited comeback with goals from Hassan Abdullahi, Taiwo Adams, and Hassan Muhammed to draw level.
In the shootout, Anambra held their composure to claim a famous victory — their first-ever NBSL title, ending Kebbi Fishers’ two-year reign as champions.
The defeat was also Kebbi Fishers’ first loss of the season, bringing an end to their nine-match unbeaten run.
Despite the setback, the Birnin Kebbi-based side remains the most successful club in league history with three titles, while Anambra now join 2022 champions Kada BSC as one-time winners.
Meanwhile, Kada BSC secured the bronze medal after a comfortable 3–0 victory over Kebbi United BSC in the third-place playoff.
