Cyriel Dessers strike not enough to rescue Cremonese from Monza defeat

Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers scored his third Serie A goal of the season in Cremonese’s 3-2 defeat at home to Monsa at the Giovanni Zini Stadium on Saturday.
Dessers was handed his 14th start of the season by coach Davide Ballardini but his effort was not enough to rescue his struggling Cremonese from defeat in their battle against relegation at the hands of their visitors.
The hosts started on the back foot  as Patrick Ciurria gave the visitors the shock first half lead in the eighth minute.
On resuming the second half, Cremonese’s comeback dreams were compounded when the visitors were gifted a penalty and Gianluca Caprari wasted no chance to double the visitors lead 20 minutes after the restart.
The home side, eventually found their breakthrough after several attempts when Daniel Ciofani pulled one back in the 67th minute before Dessers found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to push for a late comeback.
Despite the fightback, Monsa held on till the death to preserve their narrow lead to snatch victory and left Cremonese in the search for a first Serie A win this season.
The 28-year-old striker ends his league goal drought, having failed to score since October in the draw against Spezia.
