Daniel Ogunmodede: CHAN Eagles Assistant Coach backs Eric Chelle amid poor tournament run

CHAN Eagles Assistant Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has publicly backed Head Coach Eric Chelle despite the team’s disappointing campaign at the ongoing TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

Ogunmodede, who also manages Nigeria Professional Football League side Remo Stars SC, dismissed speculation that he might criticise Chelle following the Eagles’ struggles.

 “Many people are expecting me to say negative things about my head coach because I am no longer in charge of the team, and we are not doing well at this CHAN 2024,” he said.

“I will never do that. I am his assistant and I accepted to do this job. I stand with him, and I sink with him. That is what loyalty and professionalism are about.”

The home-based Eagles have already been eliminated from the tournament but still face Congo in their final Group Stage match on August 19.

Ogunmodede insists the technical crew remains united despite the setback.
