Daniel Ogunmodede explains Remo Stars’ late dramatic comeback against Enyimba
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Head coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede has opened up on his side’s incredible comeback following a 2-2 draw with Enyimba in the opening match of the Nigeria Premier Football League Super 6 opener on Saturday.
The Sky Blue Stars had to come from behind twice to snatch a point against the People’s Elephants at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

After a goalless first half, an entertaining second half produced four goals with both sides sharing the spoils, a result Ogunmodede sees as better than losing all three points.

“Enyimba is one of the best teams in Nigeria for what they have achieved for the country,” Ogunmodede told journalists.
“For me, they are the best in the country in terms of tradition but we know what we can do to them is our tactical prowess which we tried to execute.
“We took the fight to them. We gave them a lot of respect but not fear. At a point when we should respect them, we gave it to them. The point we were supposed to be consistently battle minded, we gave it to them and it yielded the result we wanted.”
Adiele Eriugo opened the scoring for the People’s Elephants at the hour mark before substitute, Junior Lokosa equalized for the Sky Blue Stars 17 minutes later.
Captain Emeka Obioma’s 81st-minute penalty seemed to have won the match for Enyimba but Remo Stars captain, Nduka Junior scored in the additional minutes of the game to salvage a point for the Ikenne-based side.
“It wasn’t the appropriate result we wanted. We came for three points but not taking away that was also a disappointment for us,” he continued.
“The important thing is showing respect to the match official which we tried to do. We know he is human and will make mistakes. It doesn’t matter as this is football and a game of emotions. In the end, we were very disciplined. We were not insulting but only asked questions.
“Junior Lokosa brought the change we needed. Enyimba defenders were all on him. They know he is the target man. Lokosa came and gave us a good effort as a substitute.”
Remo Stars will next face holders, Rivers United on Monday in its second match of the Super Six campaign.
