Nigeria-eligible Arnaut Danjuma and Dominic Solanke were on target as Bournemouth thrashed 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur in an English Premier League encounter on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Bournemouth in the 92nd minute, and as a result, they fell farther behind in the race for a spot in the Champions League.
Despite going 1-0 up through Heung-Min Son, Tottenham couldn’t quite build on it as Matias Vina and Dominic Solanke scored to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
The Spurs’ hopes were lifted as they managed to equalize, courtesy of a brilliant strike from their former Bournemouth player,
Coming off the bench to replace Davinson Sanchez in the second half, Danjuma wasted no time in making his mark.
A long throw-in from Perisic found its way to Danjuma just on the edge of the box, and he unleashed a fierce first-time strike that beat the goalkeeper and found the back of the net.
Despite the goal being checked for offside due to Harry Kane’s positioning, it was allowed to stand, potentially securing an important point for Spurs.
But a late winner from Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara left the away end in raptures. Spurs are now three points behind Newcastle United and Manchester United, despite playing more games than both of those teams combined.
However, the Nigeria-born Danjuma believes they can still survive a top 4 finish for a Champions League spot next season.
“It is a little bit quiet [in the dressing room], but despite how quiet it is, we are still eager about the games that are coming up,” the 26-year-old told media.
“We noticed that Newcastle lost some points too. We go back to the drawing board and work hard in training for a top 4 finish.”
