Nigeria midfielder Deborah Abiodun has hailed the Super Falcons’ 3-1 victory over Ghana as an important test for the team ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and Rasheedat Ajibade sealed the win for the nine-time African champions in Sunday’s friendly match against the Black Queens. The encounter marked the conclusion of the Falcons’ training camp in preparation for the continental tournament.
Speaking via the Super Falcons’ official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Abiodun emphasized the significance of the match, particularly in terms of the physical challenge posed by the Ghanaian side.
“Yeah, I think it was a good training day,” Abiodun said. “We trained hard, especially playing against a team like Ghana. You know they bring a lot of physicality, and I think that’s very good for us.”
She added: “It’s a step toward our bigger goal. Whether it’s a friendly match or a competitive game, we must keep winning and give everything we can.”
The Super Falcons will face Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in Group stage of WAFCON 2024.
