Delta Queens set sights on WAFU-B Women’s Champions League success

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Delta Queens, Henrietta Ehiabor has promised the teeming fans of the team that it will get positive results and represent the nation well at the upcoming WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Her comment came after the Asaba-based side were drawn to face USFA (Burkina Faso), Atletico D’Abidjan (Ivory Coast), and Sam Nelly FC (Benin Republic) in Group A of the WAFU-B qualifiers.
A 2-1 win against 2021/2022 champions Bayelsa Queens handed Delta Queens a first Nigerian title win in sealed the league title and qualified the team for the third edition of the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers and the Delta Queens supremo is confident about her side regional success.
“The reality is that Delta Queens are the 2023 champions of the NWFL Premiership and that places a greater responsibility on the team, beginning with the WAFU-B regional qualifier,” Ehiabor told the club media.
“It is super great that we have huge support from the Delta State Sports Commission as we take on this first task as champions, we promise to do our best for better results and continue to make Deltans in particular and Nigeria atlarge, Proud.
In a similar vein, Delta Queens technical adviser, Tosan Blankson admitted his team is still working with its campaign slogan of “every game is a final”.
He further disclosed that the technical crew is in close deliberations and mapping out best ways to build every area of the team for optimum productivity at the regional qualifier in Benin, Edo state.
“No team is a minor anymore in football, for them to have qualified, it means they are champions so we continue with the mindset that we are playing against Champions in every game which we take as finals,” Blackson told media.
“The team has been working hard with support from our Commissioner and the Sports Commission. The players too have been giving the best of concentration knowing this exposure can make or break their career.”
Delta Queens after winning the league title became the third different team to qualify for the Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League after Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens.
The seven-club tournament which runs from August 18 to September 2, 2023, will see the eventual winner join Ivorian champions Atletico D’Abidjan in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
