Desire Oparanozie scores, bags assist as Wuhan pip Shanghai in top-of-the-table duel

Nigeria forward, Desire Oparanozie scored a goal and provided an assist Wuhan Jiangda recorded a 2-0 win over Barbra Banda’s Shanghai on Wednesday.

Wuhan and Shanghai hold the same record ahead of the game with seven wins and draw in their previous eight games and tied at the top of the log in the Chinese Women’s Super League.

After a drab goalless first half, Oparanozie opened the scoring for the visitors as she headed in a cross from the left wing to break the deadlock for Wuhan Jiangda in the 49th minute.

The former Dijon captain went on to provide an assist for Malawian international, Temwa Chawinga who made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

Oparanozie has scored three league goals for Wuhan Jiangda this season as the league holders continue their quest to retain the title.

With her current exploits, the Nigeria international will hope her fine form for club will put her in contention for selection ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With the win Wuhan Jiangda opened up a three-point lead at the top of the log with 25 points ahead of Shanghai RCB. They will next face Jiangsu Suning in a league encounter on May 14.
