Diepreye Teibowei credits Bayelsa State Government for Bayelsa United resurgent
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
After a 3-0 win over Group B leaders, Lobi Stars on Sunday, Bayelsa United coach, Diepreye Teibowei says the State Government support have boosted the performance of his team in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Wisdom Ikechi Stephen opened the scoring for the host with a powerful shot after Lobi Stars’ defence failed to clear Okorie Ekeson’a corner kick in the 13th minute before Alex Jerry doubled the lead 11 minutes later and Lobi Stars’ goalkeepers’ own goal made it 3-0 on the brink of regulation time.
Bayelsa United has won its last three league games and holds a four-match unbeaten run which Teibowei attributed to immense government support despite a slow start to the league campaign.
“Of course, something has changed that is why the results are coming. Bayelsa United started on a not-a-very-good note because of initial problems. I thank God for the Government that was able to identify and intervene to motivate the players, coaches, and the entire team. This is the result.” Teibowei told journalists.
“Towards the end of the season, the government had to give us the mandate to make sure that we have players to fortify the team. The government even participated directly and that is the result.
“I believe that a lot of things have changed and the boys, coaches, and management are happy.”
Teibowei’s side occupy the seventh position on the log with 15 points three points and two places above the relegation zone despite the deduction of three points from the team.
It gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last season from second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL) alongside Bendel Insurance, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Doma United.
