‘Don’t abandon Golden Eaglets after U17 Afcon ouster’ – Kenneth Omeruo tells NFF
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo has urged the Nigeria football authorities not to abandon the U17 players that were recently ousted from the U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria.
The Eaglets boasts of enterprising and fantastic footballers but they couldn’t reach their peak at the tournament as they were humbled 2-1 by Burkina Faso.
Super Eagles defender, Omeruo said he was unhappy that the Eaglets didn’t reach the semifinal stage despite the array of talents in the team.
The lanky defense marshall pleaded for the young lads not to be abandoned but should be given the necessary support to succeed.
“It was sad not to see this boys progress to the next stage and also to the World Cup.. so many bright talents in this team,” Omeruo was quoted by Nigeria Sport News.
“I just hope they are not abandoned and I know for sure a lot of them will play to their highest potentials and I hope they are encouraged in defeat as well.”
Omeruo picked Jeremiah Olaleke and Hope Linus as the two players that impressed him most from the Eaglets squad.
The Nigeria U17 elimination from the U17 AFCON has resulted in the sacking of the coaching crew by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
