Edna Imade inspires Real Sociedad to stunning win over Barcelona

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
In what turned out to be a shock result in the Spanish women’s league, Edna Imade inspired Real Sociedad to a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Barcelona Féminine, handing the defending champions their first defeat of the season.
Imade showed remarkable composure as she converted from the penalty spot to register her seventh goal of the campaign.
The 25-year-old forward, currently on loan from Bayern Munich Ladies, continues to enhance her reputation after netting 16 league goals for Granada last season before sealing a summer move to Germany.
The result brought an end to Barcelona’s 10-match winning streak across all competitions this season.
Despite the defeat, the Catalan side remain top of the Spanish Liga F log with 24 points, four ahead of Real Madrid, while Real Sociedad sit third with 20 points.
Real Sociedad will next travel to Espanyol on November 9, 2025.
Imade’s sensational form has once again reignited discussions about her international future with Nigeria’s senior women’s national team.
When asked about the situation, Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu offered insight into the ongoing efforts by the national team to bring her into the fold: “We’ve been following Edna’s progress closely, just like many of our players overseas. She had an excellent campaign with Granada last season and is already doing well at Real Sociedad.
“Despite our efforts, including reaching out to her club and through some of our players in Spain, she is yet to make a final decision.
“Whatever she decides, we respect her choice and wish her the very best.”
However, strong indications suggest that Edna Imade may be leaning towards representing Spain.
Sources close to the player reveal that her loan move back to Spain was partly motivated by the need to complete residency formalities required for Spanish nationality. The Spanish Football Federation is reportedly keen on fast-tracking her eligibility for the national team.
For now, Imade’s focus remains firmly on delivering top performances for Real Sociedad — and with the form she’s in, it’s clear the young forward is destined for the global stage, whichever national team she ultimately chooses to represent.
