Nigeria-eligible forward Edna Imade was on the losing side as Granada fell 2-1 to Real Betis in a Spanish women’s top-flight clash at the Ciudad Deportiva del Granada on Saturday.
Betis took an early lead, scoring within the first four minutes. Rosa Marquez capitalized on a scramble in the box after Granada defenders failed to clear a corner kick, slotting the ball home.
Both goalkeepers were kept busy throughout the match, each making crucial saves. Imade had a promising chance to equalize in the first half, but her shot inside the box went wide.
Granada continued to press for an equalizer, and their persistence paid off when a foul inside the penalty area led to a well-deserved penalty.
Imade stepped up and confidently converted the spot kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and finding the bottom left corner to level the score.
However, with just 15 minutes remaining, Carla Armengol netted the decisive goal for Betis, slipping the ball through Granada’s defense to regain the lead.
Despite their efforts to equalize for a second time, Granada could not break through Betis’ defense, and the visitors claimed a narrow victory.
Imade, who scored her third league goal of the season in just seven appearances, was substituted in the 74th minute for Lucia Ramos.
Granada now sit 10th in the league standings with six points from seven games. They will host Sevilla in their next fixture on November 3, following the international break.
