Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is fit and ready to play against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend, following his recent ordeal with the Super Eagles during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Libya.

Boniface, who was part of the Super Eagles squad, had spoken publicly about the inhumane treatment his team endured at the hands of Libyan authorities before their qualifier a few days ago. The 23-year-old striker described the harsh conditions they faced and how they were eventually forced to return to Nigeria.

Alonso, speaking ahead of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga clash against Frankfurt, acknowledged the unpleasantness of the situation but reassured that Boniface has had adequate time to recover and train in preparation for the upcoming match.

“We have spoken,” Alonso said, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine. “What happened is not pleasant. But he [Boniface] has had enough time to train.”

Alonso’s comments suggest that despite the challenges Boniface faced off the pitch, he is now mentally and physically prepared to contribute to his team this weekend.
