EFL: Kelechi Iheanacho’s first Championship goal sends Leicester City to second

By Wale Mustapha
Nigerian winger, Kelechi Iheanacho inspired Leicester City move up to second on the English Championship table following their 2-0 away win at Norwich City on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles’ forward scored the first goal of the night with a powerful penalty in the first half that extended the Foxes’ unbeaten away record in the league just as it halted Canaries’ brilliant run at home.
It was an end to end affairs in the first half as both sides had fair share of dominance but lacked initiatives to make the few chances count.
However as the first half was heading for stalemate, Norwich defender gifted the visitors the chance to have their nose in front when Christian Fassnacht clumsily pushed Stephy Mavididi over in the area and Iheanacho’s resultant spot kick was taken with much force to finish at the back of the end after Angus Gunn got a solid hand on the ball.
It was Iheanacho’s first league goal of the season, his second in all competitions with three assists to his credit already.
Norwich dominated the opening moments of second half and was closed to find the equalizer but Shane Duffy had his close range effort saved by Leicester keeper, Hermansen.
The visitors steadied through the torrid moments and would soon find their rhythm again which saw them asking more questions.
Their resolute through counterattacking moves helped them with the second goal when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall broke clear and unselfishly squared the ball to Kasey McAteer, who tapped into an empty net.
The win sends Coach Enzo Maresca’s side within a point behind leader Preston as they get set to host Bristol City.
