By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

All is set for the first edition of the Monday Gift Girls Cup (MGGC) starting on November 15, 2023.

Eight schools will vie for the inaugural title at the Obele Community High School Ground, Surulere, Lagos.

The tournament is sponsored by Nigeria and UDG Tenerife star, Gift Monday in celebration of empowerment and talent. Podium finishers will smile home with a total prize pool of N150,000.

There are also cash prizes for the best player and highest goal scorer of the competition.

Gift is known for her standout role on and off the pitch as an advocate of empowering young girls in her community. This transformative program, spearheaded by Olasunkanmi A. Gbeleyi, Ph.D., targets girls aged 8 to 16, providing not just football training but also essential life skills.

The (MGGC) Championship stands as a testament to the power of sports and education in shaping lives, with the ultimate goal of inspiring excellence across diverse fields.

The (MGGC) Championship is not just a tournament; it’s a pathway to empowerment and success as Gift Nyakno Monday articulates, “I strive to give back to the girl child in my community, and this football academy will provide opportunities for more girls to excel through the combination of sport and education.”
