Ekene Awazie ecstatic about winning Nigeria Premier Football League with Enyimba

Enyimba star, Ekene Awazie is delighted to win the prestigious Nigeria Premier Football League after he scored the People’s Elephant last goal of the season in NPFL Super Six tournament on Sunday.

The People’s Elephant emerged Nigerian champions for a record ninth time after a 1-1 draw with Rivers United and the forward admitted Rivers United gave them a tough fight in the deciding game.

“I’m very happy about winning the league title. It was a challenging game against Rivers United, but even before the match, we knew they wouldn’t defeat us. I’m glad we can bring the title back to Aba,” Ekene told The Athletic NG.

“It’s a joyful moment for us at Enyimba Int’l to be back competing on the continent. We have always performed well whenever we play in continental competitions because we are one of the best teams in the league. I believe we will continue to excel.”

The speedy forward explained the difficulties he faced when he joined the People’s Elephant from defunt Ifeanyi Ubah two years ago.

“Football is a game of ups and downs. There will be times when you face difficulties within your team. You don’t have to play all the time, even if you know you’re the best,” he continued.

“There is always competition for starting positions in the team. It hasn’t been easy, but I thank God that my hard work and determination helped me improve my game. At the end of the day, I’m happy because we are champions.

“I know our supporters expect more from us, but I want to assure them that we will give our best in the upcoming season to become champions once again on the continent.”

Enyimba FC will make a return to the CAF Champions League after getting a taste of the tournament four years ago.

The People’s Elephant will be aiming to end their 19 years wait for continental glory.
