Emmanuel Zira solicits Grade-A friendly match for Super Falcons in July

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Sports Administrator, Emmanuel Zira says the Nigeria senior women’s national team needs to be handed top-grade friendly matches to ascertain the team’s strength ahead of this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons has played five international friendlies this year, losing twice and winning three against Costa Rica (1-0), Haiti (2-1), and New Zealand (3-0), all teams are also set to feature in the global showpiece this summer.

Despite the numbers of top games, the former chairman of Adamawa Queens insists more high-profile games will put Randy Waldrum’s side in tougher and stronger shape for the 32-nation tournament.

“They have been able to win their recent friendly games which are good. At least it will be able to give them confidence which is good ahead of the World Cup proper.” Zira told Brila FM.

“These are mediocre teams actually. We need top-class friendly matches for them to be able to ascertain their level of technical and physics fitness for the World Cup.

“It’s not that these games are not good but these kinds of matches are good to build confidence going forward.”

The Nigeria Football Federation recently promised the team a Grade-A friendly match in Europe in July.

Nigeria will face Australia, Canada, and The Republic of Ireland in Group B at this year’s Women’s World Cup.
