Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent, Rivers United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-0 loss to Algerian side, USM Alger on Sunday.
Two goals in either half from Abdoulaye Kamou lifted the holders of the CAF second-tier inter-club competition to the semi final.
Nabil Lamara set up Kanou for the opener in the 37th minute at the Stade Omar Hammadi, Algiers.
In the 74th minute, Cameroon player, Leonel Ateba assisted Kanou for the second goal..
USM Alger won the two legged quarter final clash 2-1 on aggregate.
The Pride of Rivers had won the first leg 1-0 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
They also crashed out of the tournament at the same stage last season to Young Africans of Tanzania.
Getting to the quarter final guarantees Nigeria four slots at next season’s CAF Inter Club competitions with two teams in the CAF Champions League and two in the Confederation Cup.
The team will focus on the league and Federation Cup in a bid to qualify for the continent next season.
