Erasmus Onuh bemoans Abia Warriors’ slow start against Sporting Lagos

By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Abia Warriors, Erasmus Onuh expressed disappointment how his side approached their Nigeria Premier Football League clash against Sporting Lagos that ended 1-1 on Wednesday.
The result signaled the Warriors’ end of perfect home runs in the new season as the Noisy Lagosians took the lead in the first half with a cool finish from Akpesiri Naibe.
The hosts made few adjustment soon after and gained control of the tie but could not find the equalizer on time and had to wait till six minutes from time before breaking Sporting’s backline, thanks to Pascal Nwabueze’s goal.
They were so close to sealed the win but Nwabueze’s second was chalked off for offside and coach Onuh blamed ill-luck while he questioned the referee’s decision to disallowed what could have been the winning goal for his team.
“Its how the game choose to be for us today, we did all we could but we were not lucky, Onuh told nigeriafootball.ng after the game,” Onuh told media.
“I still don’t understand why the second goal was not counted I will have to see the clip before making a final judgment.
“May be today was not our day, we came into it a bit late but I believe we could still have won because we played better than them, especially in the second half, we’ll need to put that behind and focus on next task.”
Abia Warriors’ next match is an Oriental derby against their state rivals, Enyimba FC and Onuh insists: “It’s another game, we are going to play to our best, a win will be good for us I’m not promising anything yet but let’s get there first.”
