Esther Okoronkwo inspires AFC Toronto to victory with decisive assist

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Esther Okoronkwo produced a moment of brilliance to guide AFC Toronto to a narrow 1-0 win over Ottawa Rapid FC in the early hours of Saturday.

Okoronkwo turned provider for the game’s only goal, once again underlining her value to the Canadian outfit.

The 26-year-old has been in scintillating form throughout 2025, directly contributing to 22 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Her tally includes 10 goals and 12 assists, making her one of the most productive Nigerian players abroad this year.

In the Northern Canadian Women’s League, Okoronkwo’s numbers are equally impressive, with 8 goals and 6 assists to her name.

Since helping Super Falcons to 3-2 win over host, Morocco to clinch the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scoring a goal with an assist, the former Saint Etienne player has not put her foot off the pedal.

Her consistency and creative influence continue to power AFC Toronto’s push for honors.
