Etoile Filante vs. Rivers United: CAF names Guinean Referees for Confederation Cup tie

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Guinean official for the Second Preliminary Round first leg game in the CA Confederation Cup between Rivers United and Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso on Sunday.

Naby Laye Toure has been appointed as the referee for the game slated to take place at the Stade de Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.

The game will be the Pride of Rivers’s first game on the continent this season after the former Nigerian champions were on bye for the First Preliminary Round where compatriot, Bendel Insurance edged ASO Chlef of Algeria on penalties.

The team’s third-place finish at the end of the 2022/2023 league campaign sealed qualification for the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup.

After dropping from the CAF Champions League last season, Stanley Eguma’s side enjoyed a fairytale rule in the Confederation Cup.

They reached the quarter final losing to Tanzania side, Young Africans. A major target for this season is to surpass their previous performance.
