By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The players and officials of the African champions, South Africa women’s national team will land in Nigeria on Easter Monday.

Nigeriafootball.ng can confirm that coach Desiree Ellis’ side will arrive in Abuja on Monday, April 1, 2024, ahead of the first leg of the final round of the Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers.

Home-based players will depart South Africa with officials on the same day of arrival.

Foreign players are expected to join the South African counterparts in Nigeria from their various bases.

The last time Banyana Banyana visited Nigeria, they smiled home with the Aisha Buhari Cup in 2021.

In fact, Desiree Ellis’s side defeated Randy Waldrum’s team 4-2 in the final match to win the title.

Afterward, they went on to edge Super Falcons 2-1 at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) group stage in Morocco a year later.

The first leg of the fourth round of the Olympics Qualifiers is scheduled for Friday, April 5 with the trying leg four days later in South Africa.

The winner of the game on aggregate will qualify for the women’s football event of the Olympics where World Champions Spain, Asian giants Japan, and South America champions Brazil await in Group C.
