Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will arrive in Portugal on Sunday as part of their final preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The highly anticipated friendly against the Portuguese women’s national team—who are also preparing for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025—will serve as a crucial test for the nine-time African champions ahead of the continental showpiece.
Sources within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the travel plans on Wednesday, noting that the encounter will give head coach Justine Madugu an opportunity to assess his squad against top-tier European opposition.
Details of the match, including the venue, kick-off time, and the 24-player squad list, are expected to be announced in the coming days.
The 2024 WAFCON kicks off on July 5 in Morocco, with Nigeria drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. The Super Falcons are gunning for a record-extending 10th continental title, having last lifted the trophy in Ghana in 2018.
