Fans have urged Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, to return home and join protests against bad governance after their exit from the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris.
The Super Falcons suffered a 3-1 defeat to Japan on Wednesday, marking the end of their campaign after earlier 1-0 losses to Brazil and Spain.
Fans took to social media to remind the team of the planned nationwide protests aimed at highlighting the country’s economic issues, such as high inflation, unemployment, and hunger.
While some fans are calling for a complete overhaul of the team, others are encouraging the players to join the nationwide protest.
“They will add voice during protest, we need them back home fast,” Ben Amaigbe posted.
“Team wey com from hungry country, how dem wan take win? Make dem come back come join protest joor,” Kaduna Festus posted.
“Super Falcons should pack their bags and start coming to join tomorrow’s protest,” @Deisylee003 tweeted.
