Federation Cup: Fidelis Ilechukwu sees Plateau United, Rangers’ semifinal duel as final
By Wale Mustapha
Fidelis Ilechukwu has identified Plateau United’s 2023 Federation Cup semifinal clash against Rangers Int’l on Thursday as a final clash.
The Tin City club look set to take a huge step towards winning a silverware this season haven missed out of the Super Six playoffs when they face off against the Flying Antelopes at the Otunba Dipo Dino Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.
The Peace Boys claimed a narrow 1-0 quarterfinal win over Kwara United on Sunday and the tactician maintains his quest to win the Federation Cup to atone for his side’s league title miss this season.
“We have had a tough season, as we missed out by whiskers for a place in the NPFL Super 6, the Federation Cup is a good chance for the team to redeem our status and make the fans smile,” he was quoted by BSN Sports.
“I expect a tough duel from Rangers, as they have won it six times while Plateau United have only won the cup once, so pundits would perhaps rate us the underdogs.
“Having come this far shows the quality in both teams but not playing each other in the NPFL this season, owing to the abridged format, might be a key factor in the game.
“I’m expecting my Matchday squad to give their hundred percent, as at this stage of the Federation Cup, only the best gets to the final.”
The winner of the semi final will meet the winner between Insurance FC and Warrior Wolves.
