FIFA Ranking: Super Falcons hold 36th position after 10th WAFCON title

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria’s senior women’s national team have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released on Thursday morning, despite emerging champions at the recently concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
While the ranking did not reflect an upward movement for the African champions, the Super Falcons continue to maintain their status as the highest-ranked team in Africa.
Analysts suggest the stagnation could be attributed to the concurrent timing of the WAFCON and the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, where higher-ranked European teams played matches that significantly influenced ranking changes.
The Copa America Femenina (South Africa women’s tournament) also coincided with the WAFCON.
The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released in 126 days, on December 11, 2025.
Other top-ranked African teams include:
South Africa – 56th
Morocco – 64th
Zambia – 65th
Cameroon – 66th
Ghana – 67th (Third-place finishers at WAFCON)
The Super Falcons’ consistency continues to cement Nigeria’s place as a powerhouse in African women’s football.
