By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
A charge has come from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to the Flamingos to stay focused ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final clash with Colombia.
NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi has called for support to enable the national U-17 girls to defeat Colombia while admonishing the player to do Nigeria proud.
“My charge to the team is to go all out to make Nigeria and themselves proud. For Nigerians to be behind them means they are up for something big,” the NFF scribe revealed to nigeriafootball.ng via Brila FM this week
“We want them to forget about their past achievements and focus on the task ahead of them.”
A win for Nigeria will break Ghana’s record of a third-place finish at the FIFA Women’s World Cup which will set a new African record at the tournament.
“Nigerians are solidly behind them. I will call on all Nigerians to come out en masse to support them. The more we support them, the more happier they are,” Sanusi concluded.
Nigeria has won three of its four games including a quarter-final triumph on penalties over the United States of America (USA) after defeat in its first group game in the hands of Germany.
The coach Bankole Olowookere’s led side has already broken the Nigerian record at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a semi-final berth.
Another win on Wednesday will make the team the most successful African team at the women’s U-17 World Cup level.
