Nigeria U-17 women’s national team captain, Shakirat Moshood, has been nominated for the 2025 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.

The Bayelsa Queens forward was among the 10 players shortlisted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday, recognizing her outstanding performances for both club and country over the past year.

Moshood played a crucial role in leading the Flamingos to qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

She also impressed at the 2024 U-17 World Cup, narrowly missing out on the top scorer award after helping Nigeria reach the quarterfinals.

At club level, the former Kwara Ladies star was instrumental in Bayelsa Queens’ successful NWFL Premiership campaign and emerged as the top scorer at the 2025 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire.

She will compete for the CAF honour alongside the following nominees:

Habiba Essam (Egypt)

Habiba Sabry (Egypt)

Stella Nyamekye (Ghana)

Doha El Madani (Morocco)

Adjust Ndiaye (Senegal)

Ester Maseke Marwa (Tanzania)

Winifrida Gerald (Tanzania)

Mercy Chipasula (Zambia)

Ruth Mukoma (Zambia)

The CAF Awards 2025 ceremony will celebrate Africa’s best football talents, with Moshood’s nomination highlighting the growing influence of Nigeria’s young stars on the continental stage.
