Nigeria U-17 women’s national team (Flamingos) on Friday arrived in Goa for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after a five-hour stopover in Mumbai, India.
The verified Twitter handle of the Nigerian women’s national team confirmed their arrival in Goa. Players and officials upon arrival have settled down at Grand Hyyat Hotel.
Flamingos left Turkey after a 10-day training camp in final preparation for this year’s FIFA U17 World Cup finals in India. The team will prosecute their group B games against Germany and New Zealand. They will fly to Bhubaneswar for their final game against Chile.
The Bankole Olowookere tutored side defeated Galatasaray Women’s team 3-1 with a brace from Edidiong Etim and one by top scorer Opeyemi Ajakaye during their camp in the Turkish City of Kocaeli.
They lost their second friendly 1-3 to Fenerbahce Women at the same venue.
Their first match of the World Cup campaign will be against top dogs in Germany on Wednesday, 11th October.
This will be Flamingos’ sixth appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with the quarter-final stage being the team’s best result.
