Super Falcons midfielder, Abiodun Deborah, says she is excited to play for one of the best teams in the world.
The midfielder who played a part in the Falcons’ 2-0 loss to Japan in Kobe spoke to NFF TV before the game at Noevir Stadium.
“The feeling was exciting and so great playing against one of the best teams in the world, it’s such a wonderful moment and amazing game for me and also being privileged and a dream come true to make the Super Falcons squad,” said Deborah, who currently plays for Nigerian side Rivers Angels.
She admitted that she had dreamt of playing for the Falcons and her invitation to the team brought her dreams to reality. Abiodun made her debut for the Falcons in the double header against USA.
The Falconets star was one of the best players for the Falconets, who crashed out at the quarterfinal of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica after losing to the Netherlands.
Speaking on her invitation to the senior team, Abiodun said: “This is something I have always dreamt of and wished to play for the senior team and be among the Super Falcons and it’s just happening.
“Every invitation to the national team is a surprise because you can’t predict any invite you get, so I am grateful to God. Every training session with the Super Falcons has helped me to also learn more.”
She further said that training with the Falcons has helped her to learn more about the game
“Learning from the senior players and adding it to my knowledge helps me build my confidence,” she admitted.
“The senior players have always kept in touch with me and try to encourage me in one way or the other. Am so grateful to them. Also to the Super Falcons coach for believing in me, and allowing me to play with the Super Falcons.”
The 18-year-old midfielder is one of the youngest players in Randy Waldrum’s squad and she hopes to be regular feature and potentially earn a chance to play at next year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
