After receiving a yellow card in the reverse fixture against Guinea Bissau, Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is out of the next Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone in June.
The Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper was cautioned in the 92nd minute by the Moroccan referee in charge for time wasting, becoming the second yellow card the former Elche man has received during the qualifying series.
His first yellow of the qualifying series came in the opening game against Sierra Leone in Abuja last June, also for time wasting. Therefore, he will be suspended for Super Eagles’ next game.
This is following Article 42.1 of the Regulations of the AFCON which states that; “a player who receives two cautions shall be automatically suspended from playing the following match”.
The 24-year-old will serve his suspension but could return for the last game against Sao Tome and Principe. Also on the ‘danger’ list are Calvin Bassey, Kenneth Omeruo, and Oghenekaro Etebo who are all on one yellow card each.
Calvin Bassey and Oghenekaro Etebo were cautioned in Nigeria’s opening match with Sierra Leone while Omeruo got his yellow card in the 36th minute of the match in Guinea Bissau.
