By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo says that the nation’s second-tier league is on course to start in October 2023.
The country’s leagues across all tiers, including Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the NNL are yet to get authentic kickoff dates but the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) is set to kick off on November 15.
However, the veteran sports writer has hinted that October kick-off date for the commencement of the NNL for next season’s campaign, stressing that substantive date would be decided at the League Annual General Meeting (AGM).
“For us in NNL, we have to first deal with the issue of our Annual General Meeting before the commencement of the league,” Aluo told Brila FM.
“Once that AGM is held with the club owners, we will now come up with a date for the new season.
“Definitely, we are looking at the new NNL season starting next month (October).” He concluded.
The NNL which is popularly referred to as the most important league in the country feeds the top-flight NPFL and accommodates teams from the third-tier Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO1).
Kano Pillars, Katsina United, Heartland FC, and Sporting Lagos gained promotion to the top flight last season from the NNL while the likes of Beyond Limits Academy (Remo Stars Football Club Academy) progressed from the NLO1 to the NNL.
