George Finidi confirms Enyimba’s readiness to defend NPFL title

George Finidi, Head Coach of reigning Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL champions Enyimba FC has dispelled any possibilities of his side giving in to pressure as they set to defend their title in new season.

The People’s Elephants will begin their 2023/2024 campaign against Gombe United on Sunday after missing out of action in the opening day fixture due to Insurance FC who were on the continental engagement.

Finidi is confident of his team’s fortitude to handle the pressure that comes with being defending champions just as he mapped out how to handle it.

“We are coming into the season as defending champions but we won’t allow that to put us under any pressure,” he told the club media.

“We have already had discussions with the players and we have made them understand that one thing we must do is stick to our ideologies.

“This is a long season that will have the good moments and the difficult ones, but what ever the case, wet must stick to our ideologies. That is what will give us an identity and give us a chance.

“I understand that the fans have high expectations, but at the same time I am confident that the players we have can deliver. We are all motivated and ready to go at it again,” he said.

The Nigerian champions are scheduled to face off with Gombe United and the former Super Eagles’ winger gave hints on how prepared his team is for the encounter slated for Pantanmi Stadium in Gombe on Sunday.

“Gombe United have usually been a difficult opposition, especially when playing against them in Gombe,” he continued.

“They have a good crowd of supporters behind them, and that makes them want to give everything. But we will also fancy our chances.

“We just want to maintain a positive approach because that is the same thing that helped us to win many away games last season. I am confident that with the right approach, we will be able to get a good result.”
