Germany hand first senior call-up to goalkeeper Noah Atubolu

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Germany have handed a first senior national team call-up to Noah Atubolu, the SC Freiburg goalkeeper who has been on the radar of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team.
The 23-year-old shot stopper, who recently made headlines by saving five consecutive penalties, has been included in Germany’s squad for their upcoming international matches against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
Atubolu was called up as a replacement for Oliver Baumann, who withdrew from the squad due to illness.
The Freiburg goalkeeper, who has represented Germany at various youth levels, remains eligible for Nigeria through his heritage.
However, should he feature in either of the upcoming matches, he would be permanently tied to Germany, ending any possibility of representing the Super Eagles in the future.
Atubolu has enjoyed a strong start to the season in the Bundesliga, cementing his place as Freiburg’s first-choice goalkeeper and earning praise for his composure, shot-stopping, and penalty-saving prowess.
His latest call-up marks another major step in his blossoming career — and a potential blow to Nigeria’s hopes of securing one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers.
