Gift Monday bags assist as Washington Spirit Draw with Racing Louisville

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Gift Monday registered an assist as Washington Spirit were held to a 2-2 draw by Racing Louisville in their NWSL clash at Audi Field on Saturday.

The former FC Robo Queens striker teed up Sofia Cantore in the 39th minute, with the Italian firing a long-range strike into the net to put Spirit ahead.

Louisville equalised in the 53rd minute when Rebecca Bernal diverted the ball into her own net. The visitors then turned the game around in the 80th minute as Savanna Demelo converted from the penalty spot after a VAR review.

Spirit, however, salvaged a point deep into stoppage time through Rosemonde Kouassi, ensuring the contest ended level.

Monday was lively throughout, completing 82 minutes with one assist, two shots, and several key contributions before being replaced by Makenna Morris.

She now has five goals and two assists in 13 appearances this season for the Spirit.

Her compatriot, Uchenna Kanu, did not feature in the matchday squad.

The result leaves Washington Spirit second in the NWSL standings with 28 points from 16 games, nine points adrift of leaders Kansas City Current.

They next face Alianza (El Salvador) in the CONCACAF Champions Cup group stage on August 20, 2025.
