Gift Monday sends emotional farewell message to Porto after move to Spain

By Monsurah Olatunji

Granadilla Tenerife Tenerife’s new signing Monday Gift finally bids farewell to teammates, management and the fans of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL)  outfit FC Robo Queens after she left the club.

Monday secured her first professional switch on a three-year deal to the Spanish Liga F side in September but only finally overcame administrative hurdles to land on the Canary Islands in November to complete the switch.

But while she is pleased to have completed the deal, she leaves Robo with a heavy heart after five-and-a-half years in the Lagos based outfit.

“Thanks Robo Queens and all the people who made this club in the NWFL my life all these years. Time to live a new dream!” she wrote on her social media.

The African Games winner is one of the latest break out stars from Nigeria Women Football League side former FC Robo of Lagos, helping Bayelsa Queens to the title and qualifying for African Women’s Champions League.

She scored nine goals in five Super Six matches and was named the NWFL top scorer with 12 goals, woman-of-the-match award and Player of The Tournament while on-loan to Bayelsa Queens for the season-ending Super Six championship.

The 2022 NWFL Premiership golden boot winner joined the Spanish side on a three-year deal after an illustrious career with FC Robo Queens.

She’s a member of the Super Falcons to African Women’s Championship held in Morocco this year.

The 21-year-old follows the footsteps of arguably the two biggest Super Falcons stars Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade in finding their way from FC Robo Queens to the Spanish top flight.
