Nigeria right-back, Glory Edet has joined Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) champions, TP Mazembe.
The development means Edet will end his ties with Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership side Bayelsa Queens as the Yenagoa-based outfit confirmed the move on their social media handle on Wednesday.
“We are proud to announce that our star Right Back Glory Edet has signed a contract with Tout Puissant Mazembe, one of the most successful clubs in Africa,” Bayelsa Queens announced on their Facebook page.
“Glory has been a key player for our team. Glory, we are grateful for your dedication, passion, and leadership on and off the pitch. You have made us all proud with your achievements and we wish you all the best in your new adventure.
“We hope you enjoy and learn from the rich culture and history of Congo. You will always be part of the Bayelsa Queens family and we look forward to seeing you shine in your new colours.”
Edet played a pivotal role in helping the Prosperity Girls win the 2021/2022 Nigeria Premier Football League (NWFL) Premiership title ahead of Nasarawa Amazons.
The team also clinched the West African Zone B (WAFU-B) title ahead of Ampem Darkoa of Ghana in Ivory Coast last year (2022) which qualified the team for the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
At the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League where Bayelsa Queens won the bronze medal, Edet was a stand-out player, becoming the only player to make the CAF Women’s Champions League Team of the Tournament.
She joined the list of departing players from Bayelsa Queens who have exited the team for within and outside the continent. Others include Bawou Ange Gabrielle (BIIK Kazygurt, Kazakhstan), Salisu Anuoluwapo (BIIK Kazygurt), Koku Damilola (Bnot Netanya, Israel), and Uzoamaka Igwe (Wadi Degla, Egypt).
