Hansi Flick to miss Ballon d’Or ceremony after Barcelona lose Clasico
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick will not travel to attend the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony following his side’s defeat by Real Madrid in the Clasico.
The German’s decision comes alongside the absence of young defender Pau Cubarsi, who has chosen to remain at home and rest after a demanding period with Barcelona and the Spain national team.
According to the Spanish radio station Cadena SER’s programme Que T’hi Jugues, the Clasico defeat disrupted Barcelona’s plans for the awards event. Flick subsequently decided not to make the journey, while Cubarsi opted to stay away from the ceremony to prioritise his physical recovery.
Cubarsi is regarded as one of the leading candidates for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best young player.
A number of Barcelona representatives are still expected to attend, including Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia, as well as club officials and members of the executive leadership.
Yamal will travel separately on a private jet accompanied by members of his family and friends.
The 19-year-old is considered the leading contender to win the Kopa Trophy for a second successive time. He has already claimed the award in the previous two editions and could add another notable achievement to his career despite his age.
Yamal also has the opportunity to become the first player to combine the Kopa Trophy and Ballon d’Or in the same year. However, the race for the main award remains open, with the winner still awaited.
Barcelona’s listed La Liga schedule includes a match involving Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026.
A further La Liga fixture listed for 01 November 2026 involves Racing Santander and Real Madrid.
Barcelona are also listed in the weekend schedule alongside La Liga and the 31 October 2026 date, while Real Madrid appear under La Liga for 01 November 2026.
